CodecInstaller - бесплатная утилита, которая сканирует систему в поисках установленных аудио- и видео-кодеков, выводит их список и, в случае необходимости, предлагает установить кодеки, обязательные для просмотра того или иного фильма/ролика. В дополнение к этому CodecInstaller выводит подробную информацию о фильме (автор, описание, режиссер...) и мультимедиа-файле (размер, фреймрейт, длительность, используемые кодеки и т.д.).

CodecInstaller is a Windows program that detects the Audio and Video codecs installed on your system, analyzes files to understand which codecs they require and suggests you to install them.

This program can be used to analyze files: it supports avi, mpeg, wmv, wma, ogg, flac, mpc, mp3, mp4, wav, wx and will show technical data such as width/height and ratio, length, video codec, framerate, size, bitrate, total frames, quality factor and metadata such as title, album, year (if available).

An advanced feature of CodecInstaller is the Filter Mappings Editor (see screenshot), a tool that will let you change the priority and the types of media a filter will process. This will help solving the issues created by filters producers that set a priority too high for their filters or make them decode formats they cannot handle perfectly.
Another feature targeted to power users is the 'remove filter' functionality: you will be able to either unregister a filter (and see a list of other filters that will be affected) or lower its merit value: the effect is that the filter won't be used anymore.

CodecInstaller can also be used to distribute video files on a CD, to be sure that who receives the CD will have all the necessary codecs installed: with a single tool he will be able to check if the codecs are already installed and up-to-date. CodecInstaller contains a MovieLauncher that displays informations about the distributed video file (author, plot, director...) along with a screenshot and a 'Play' button
